THE
WESTBOURNE: a lesson in history
‘The
Westbourne’ was opened in May 1995 by Olly Daniaud and Sebastian
Boyle, two old mates and drinking buddies.
The pair bought the pub direct from the brewers, Charrington Bass.
By this point ‘The Westbourne’ had achieved a pretty
unenviable reputation, was sadly run down and was the local hangout
for a large part of Notting Hill’s rougher element - in
short, ‘The Westbourne’ was a pub the brewers were
anxious to get rid of!
Works
began in Autumn 1993 and they encountered every problem imaginable,
including hitting the Westbourne River that flows under the premises
which resulted in major flooding.
